INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND
Yuen Long south, comprising the rural land south of Yuen Long Highway, is generally characterised by haphazard low-density housing, informal industrial activities and open storage. It is also located in proximity to Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Tin Shui Wai new towns, and is well connected with the urban areas by strategic road links including Route 3 and Yuen Long Highway.

URBAN SPRAWL VS. SMART GRWOTH?
URBAN SPRAWL is the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas. It occurs when people move to the area near the urban center, turning previously-rural land into low density, automobile-centric communities.
SMART GROWTH refers to a compact, high density develoment under planning for urban expansion, as well as preserving green space.
From spatial pattern domnostrated in the projected area – Ping Shan South area, I determined it as urban sprawl.
